BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE—SAVE THESE DATES

Be ready for walks on Rocky Point Beach, photography and birding opportunities, spring clean-up and beach re-vegetation outings covering more than one mile of beachfront.

Dates: Saturday March 20, March 27, April 17 and Earth Day April 24

All events rain or shine 10AM to noon and planting on Earth Day until completed! The planting Saturdays will be used to revisit the past work of years of study, view, and walk on the beach and target specific beach areas that need rehabilitation. Your input would be much appreciated. We’ll have fun too! Bring your binoculars and camera.

Volunteer for our semi-annual planting and snow fence installation activities. This project will span three planning Saturdays and one work Saturday culminating on Earth Day. Help us to restore the health of the beach and bluff. There are no simple solutions to shoreline erosion because both human and natural factors contribute to our ever-changing environment. But we can take tips from nature as it intended.

A well re-vegetated bluff that is diversified with native grasses, wildflowers and deep rooting bushes will create a natural storm protection barrier that will fortify the stability and longevity of the cliffs. We plan to purchase plants from New York State out of our budget.

Additionally we would like to raise $1,000 in funds for beach grass, beach plum, beach berry, shadblow, goldenrod, bayberry and Virginia rose. Your donation of $40 will re-vegetate 50 square feet. Donate $80 for a full 100 square feet of beach rehabilitation.

Contact Charlie at cbevingt@optonline.net to volunteer. Make checks payable to NSBPOA, PO Box 601, Rocky Point, NY 11778. These activities sponsored by NSBPOA and the Beautification Committee.
