Point PTA Programs 2007-2008 School Year
Reflections 2007-2008 What is Reflections? Reflections is a cultural arts program of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers (the National PTA) that encourages students in grades Preschool-12 to express their thoughts and feelings through the creative arts. Every year a new theme is chosen, and students create artwork at home or at school in four categories: literature, visual arts, photography and music. Students compete for prizes and recognition in four age divisions: primary (preschool - 2), intermediate (3-5), junior high (6-8), and senior high (9-12). Students may submit as many entries as they may like in each category at the local level, as long as local and state rules permit. Each entrant must be enrolled in a school where there is a PTA. Year 2007-2008 has the theme -- “I Can Make a Difference By...” If you would like to know more about the Reflections Program, visit National PTA online at www.pta.org. Why Reflections?

Since 1987, the New York State PTA has been the official sponsor and administrator for the Parents As Reading Partners (PARP) Program. The primary objective of the program is to encourage reading at home. PARP encourages parents to read with their children for at least 15 minutes a day. PARP is a reading program where parents and teachers work in a joint volunteer effort to encourage children to become better readers. The program can be run at little or not cost. (In many cases, volunteer donations from local businesses provide the awards and prizes for the student participants.) PARP programs have helped to build and strengthen the partnership between the home and school. Together, this effort will make our children more successful and education more fruitful. |
