administrator of the Town government, the supervisor is responsible
for overseeing legislation and preparing the annual Town budget.
As a member of the Town Board the Supervisor has one vote. The
Supervisor is elected to a two-year term.

Brookhaven Town has 10 elected officials including the Supervisor,
six Town Council members, a Town Clerk, Superintendent of Highways,
and Receiver of Taxes.
The elected officials are voted in by an at-large system. The Supervisor
is elected to a two-year term, Town Council members serve four-year
terms, and Council elections are held every two-years with alternate
terms of 4 years each. The Town Clerk is elected for a four-year
term, the Superintendent of Highways is elected for a 2-year term,
and the Receiver of Taxes is elected for a four-year term.

Jane Bonner
District 2 Councilperson
Jane Bonner is a longtime advocate for the people of
northeastern Brookhaven Town, where she was elected
as the community’s representative on the
Town Council in 2007.
As president of the Rocky Point Civic Association, Jane improved the quality
of life for residents of the area by solving the problems they were experiencing
in their neighborhoods. She worked as a liaison between the community and elected
officials, helping residents navigate their way through town and county agencies.
Her
vision for a better future through responsible planning
as President of the Rocky Point Revitalization and Beautification
Committee has had a direct impact on her community. In
that position, she secured more than a half million dollars
in grant monies for the Rocky Point downtown business corridor,
making this Main Street area more attractive and improving
the quality of life for all residents.

As
an aide in the Suffolk County Legislature, Jane worked on behalf
of the residents of northeastern Brookhaven to solve a myriad
of issues ranging form illegal apartments and health care issues
to having pot holes repaired, solving neighbor dispute, and general
quality of life issues. She has also served as a Trustee on Rocky
Point Board of Education, a board member of the North Shore Property Owner’s
Association, and the Rocky Point PTA.
The local press has recognized Jane Bonner’s commitment to public service,
naming her Civic Person of the Year in both 2004 and 2005. She has also received
numerous citations and awards from Congressman Tim Bishop, NY State Senator
Kenneth P. LaValle, Suffolk County and Brookhaven Town.
Jane Bonner lives in Rocky Point, and is the mother of two college students.

Town
Council
Each council member has one vote on the Town board. Council members introduce
and vote on legislation, address residents' needs, and serve as a go between
to various Town departments and committees. Council members serve four-year
terms. Elections are held every two-years with alternate terms of 4 years
each.
